The Lethbridge Bulls kicked off preseason action against Vauxhall Baseball Academy, in their first game at Spitz Stadium in nearly 2 years.

“This year has been hard.”

Staying connected to fans in these unusual times has been a challenge faced by many teams, one the Bulls are tackling with enthusiasm and creativity.

During the final three years of his university eligibility, the team was ranked #1 in Canada for much of that time. In the 1999-2000 season, the team took it all the way to the national championships in Halifax, N.S, losing out in a heartbreaking 80-75 semi-final game.

From humble beginnings to a storied high school career, Katie always looked to her mom for inspiration. “When I was quite young, I was always around my mom’s team at the college, looking up to all these females who were playing at a post-secondary level. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world that they were at such a high and intense level.”

The Lethbridge Hurricanes have been busy off the ice since the announcement of the end of the 2019-2020 season due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Earlier this week, the Lethbridge Sport Council announced its annual award winners. Among them was the Lethbridge Steel women’s tackle football team, picking up the Knud Petersen Spirit in Sport award.

“The next three weekends were set to be the most exciting of the season. It happened very quickly; it’s very unfortunate for the guys, who play all year for it to just come to an end like that.”

Growing up in small-town Saskatchewan, Torrin White gained an interest in hockey early in life. “I started playing organized hockey for the Eastend Jets when I was 3 years old.”

For Ellis Davies, soccer runs in the family. With his father as a role model, Ellis began kicking the ball around in his backyard as soon as he learned to walk. By the time he was six he was playing with a local club.

Like many young Canadians, most of Michael Clarke’s childhood memories are centred around hockey. He first laced up the skates at three years old, taking to the ice at the local rink in his hometown of Terrenceville.

Alicia talked to us about her teammates on the Pronghorns and shared with us that the women she has played with on the Horns for the last five years have become her family.

Mattie, like many young hockey players in the ’90s and early 2000s, looked up to Kaley Wickenheiser and Julian Younst as role models for her hockey career.
