The Bulls Are Back in Town
The Lethbridge Bulls opened up preseason action to an invitation-only crowd of friends and family this afternoon at Spitz Stadium. The game against Vauxhall Baseball Academy was the first of a back-to-back weekend of meetings between the two teams, with the second game slated for tomorrow at 12pm.
The highlight of the day however, was much less the game, which at one point saw the Bulls erase a 12-run deficit to lead 14-13 at the bottom of the 8th, and much more the return of a semblance of normalcy for those in attendance. The Bulls return, even to a crowd of reduced numbers, marked the end of a nearly 2 year drought in Lethbridge without organized play at Spitz Stadium. The usually sparse preseason game attracted a full patio and a good number of fans in the stands. Looking out at the fans enjoying hot dogs, popcorn, and other ballpark favorites in the sun of a June afternoon meant that for the 4 hours the game took to play, the world felt a little closer to normal.
The game was also an emotional homecoming for several players and their families. Speaking anonymously, one of the player’s parents’ commented that they had not been able to be at one of their son’s games in over a year. He had spent the 2020 season playing in the US, and the border closure meant that his parents had been unable to attend any of his games last season.
The Bull’s officially kick off their 2021 season with their home opener this Friday, June 18th. Tickets are available on the Bulls website HERE.
