The Lethbridge Bulls completed their playoff sweep against the Edmonton Prospects last night in Sherwood Park. The Bulls put up a dominant 16-5 win to clinch the series and earn their second league championship.

The game was initially a tight defensive match that saw both teams going run-for-run in the scoring up the end of the 5th inning. Following a pitching change for the Prospects at the end of the 5th inning however, the Bulls bats heated up and they were able to put up 8 runs in the top of the 6th to pull away from the Prospects and swing the game momentum in their favour. They would only add to that lead through the end of the game.

A key to the Bull’s success was strong base running performances early in the game from veterans Ty Penner, Noah Or and Brad Goodwin to claim early runs and leave the Prospects to play catchup through the first half of the game. Bryce Fraser came onto the mound in relief in the 4th inning, and would earn a Most Valuable Player (MVP) nod for his performance through the rest of the game. Fraser held the Prospects to 2 runs through the remaining 5 innings.

With the 2021 WCBL season coming to a close, the players head back to their studies and academic ball leagues this fall. We’ll be catching up with them later today to get their thoughts on being crowned the 2021 WCBL Champions.
